Last day

Finally, the end of class arrived. After studying over six months at EAPP, I just completed all my courses today. I am happy for having completed this important stage on my personal plans. I do not have douts about my English skills improvements. Also it has been a great opportunity to meet fantastic classmates. I had really good instructors and my courses were based on good books. On overall I can say that this experience at learning academic English has been very important to me. Of course there were many difficulties but thanks all of you that were my inconditional helpers I could overcome them. I think that even though I have a long way to go in English from now so on, I value so much this stage at EAPP because I learned the roots to go further. My best memories have been enriched by many anectdots to tell. I hope one day to meet one again each one of you lovely guys. Do not forget our meeting on Friday Augost 3 in the cafeteria at the UofC to go to Bowness Park and later on to Killkenny Pub.

Spelling competition

It was a great afternon spelling competition that we had in grammar class today. Since just it started I knew that my chances of succeeding would not be high because I am not good at spelling. But it was a great time to learn and enjoy with my classmates who tried to do their best to have the right answer to each question. As I thought before, most classmates who come from Asia bring really high skills on vocabulary and spelling. I could comfirm it too. Classmates who come from European countries are very talent at spelling too. Congratulations to Tahkmina who got the first place of this competition and Jackson got the second place. Well, for the rest of us there is another thing to learn my dear folks. Finally, we've technically finished our clases today, so we only have a presentation, a final essay, and final exams. Good luch everyone.

Me

Today I would like to write about me because somebody just recommend me not to write boring blogs any more, well I promised her to try it though it becomes more dificult to be funny after 32. Anywho, It is me, an international student in Calgary trying to learn good English. It is something that takes me time and sometimes makes me desper because I would like to comunicate with native speaker clearly. That is taugh and I feel frustrated sometimes when somebody ask me to repeat a word twice because of my poor pronunciation. Well once again It is me. However, my character helps me to endure this stage. Because English in not a fonetic language, it makes me crazy sometimes, you know, in Spanish we only have five sound vowels. However, I found out that English has twenty four sound vowels. Could you imagine that, It is crazy. When I knew that I said myself that is why somethimes it is hard to be understood. Anyway, I guess that at some point I will joint some pronunciation course in the coming months. Moreover, I am looking forward to finishing this semester and going west to take vacations. Hopefully I will be going to Okanagan-BC with my family. I have never been there and many friends told me that it is a wonderful place to visit. I am anxious about enjoying with my daughter and wife on vacations. Well once again it was me.....

Alberta lighted by nuclear power

As oil sands projects increases in Alberta, nuclear energy becomes a need. As you know, the process to extract oil from sand needs steam. That steam is being produced by burning natural gas, but if this large operation increases, which of course is expected, demand of energy would require more natural gas abviously; as a result, greenhouse gases in Alberta would increase at uncontrolled rates. However, the Prime Minister of Canada has anounced that its administration will launch a plan to reduce greenhouse gases and lead the industrialized countries; therefore, it is expected to built a nuclear power plant in Alberta to supply energy for this large project. Moreover, because the third generation of reactor are safer, it may be less likely to occur an accident such as Chernobyl. In addition to that, Canada has a great potential to explot its own natural resources of uranium and its own technology of reactors. According to the information that I have founded, by 2016, the oil sands projects will be working with nuclear energy. I think that this is a big challenge for Albertans who deserve to live in a clean, yet safe place.

Once again Argentina

Today, the World Cup sub 20 that was played in Canada reached its end. It has been an extraordinary event that broght to Canada the best 24 soccer teams from all over the world. Talent, technique and youth has been the highlights of each team. However, Argentina made the difference today when won for sixth time the World Cup sub 20. This is a great team not only integrated by great players but also as a colective team deserved to raise the cup. The new champion let most latin american soccer fans dream of a great future in soccer in Argentina. I am sure that Argentina is a party today, most funs will be proud of their players and at the same time they will have confidence in their next generations of stars. Now they are sure that Argentina will bright in the next Wold Cup Sudafrica 2010. I am looking forward to watching the Argentina team since now. I can foresee that the Argentinean coach will have a difficult task to choose their players among the best players of the world. Congratulations Argentina. Finally, it is important to acknowledge that Canada was a great host of the World Cup sub 20 though it does not have much history in soccer. Furthermore, as long as I know, Canada will be host once again of the world cup of soccer with women players next September, so much emotion is coming up to Canada.

It smells like a the end

Just one week remaining to finish this stage in our lives, I would like to write a few words to all of you to whom I will not see very much or perhaps any more. If fact, It is true that after sharing several classes together, I tried to get along with everyone even though we belong to differents generations. I learned so much from all of you. Each one of you have strenghts that I admire. Your minds are clear and gifted just you have to use them. You have the ability and the potential of doing whatever you want. It is up to you, so remember that. Now that it seems to arrive the end of our course I would like to wish the best in every way that each one chose. Remember always get on track, never lose your time, even having fan use it wisely. Live your age as much as you can because life is like a one way flight. There is not return. Whatever you do just enjoyed it and do not do anything that cause hurt somebody. All of you are great individuals, really smart to pursue their goals an be happy. I hope to meet you some day and I hope you want to say hi how is going on. I will be always available to talk to you any time. Finally, I want to say thanks everyone for having had me and helped me in several ways to improve my English skills. I do not want to go before telling you a couple of words: Be always hangry of successes and never satisfied with what you get because you may deserve much more.

Burning food

Today, I came across an article in the Globe and Mail, I would like to share some insights about this article. First, as the ethanol boom raises, prices of corn has been increasing at surprisingly rates. However, not only corn costs more but also many other products that use corn as a basic material are more expensive. For instance, because of the pricy corn, milk, ice cream and meat have already increased. Italian and Mexican food are also being affected. Moreover, in Germany, the favorite beberage of Germans has doubled its price in two years because farmers prefer to grow corn to supply the demand of fuel. In fact, ethanol boom has brough colateral effects. I am wonder if the U.S that is where this new trend has started has any policy in mind to control this raises of prices; otherwise, it seems to be unfair that people from many countries are affected by this tendency which main objective is to break the U.S dependency of oil from countries of the Middle East. I wonder how far this tendecy would go if nobody raises a voice to stop these kinds of effects that only benefit one country and cause damage in the economy of non-related individuals of other latitudes.
